  • OVERVIEW:

    The incumbent will oversee the Asia Pacific IT engineering group providing technical oversight as it applies to the operating systems, hardware, network infrastructures, databases, tools, in-house technical support and data-center operations. The individual will be responsible for managing an energetic, enthusiastic and highly experienced/motivated team of professional support engineers in troubleshooting complex technical support issues.  The individual will be expected to manage the team based in both HK, Melbourne and offshore partners. The individual will also be expected to evaluate, recommend, and prototype new solutions as they pertain to both strategic and day to day operations and/or as a project deliverable.  He or she will also be expected to provide expert knowledge in IT Engineering methodologies and assist in implementing global strategy in this capacity.

    • Assist in determining the strategic direction, and define operational objectives for the IT Engineering organization, its method, processes, approaches and results achieved. (5%)
    • Provide vision and drive more effective support practices and continually look for better ways for the organization to increase productivity. (5%)
    • Develop strong bond between Technology Solutions & Support and Development/Product Management/GCIS with regular reviews of forecasted requirements and delivery. (5%)
    • Provide a leadership role in driving global IT support strategy (5%)
    • Provide leadership and direct oversight for all IT engineering groups with direct accountability for broad phases of projects and perform advanced IT Engineering work. (25%)
    • Manage the day-to-day operational activities related to Data Center, Network, Databases, Windows, Linux  and UNIX infrastructure installation, integration, maintenance and support by defining, implementing and maintaining a coherent and progressive strategy. (25%)

      • Establish a strong customer focused culture with clear SLA’s back to the business
      • Create and maintain project portfolio and report on project status, activities and issues.
      • Monitor performance and lead other IT Engineers and managers to create solutions that meet company directions and customer requirements.
      • Establish theoretical basis and methods of approach, recommend technical corrections and evaluate project progress and results.
      • Demonstrate expert knowledge of supporting and administering a highly complex and rapidly growing environment and related components.
      • Provide input and direction around IT tools. Build, improve and enhance the Infrastructure analytics capabilities by creatively using off the shelf and home grown tools and solutions.
      • Manage various projects related to design and implementation of new and/or existing infrastructure.
      • Mentor and develop direct reports.
      • Work closely with finance and various business units on managing and improving the Infrastructure cost allocation model.
      • Troubleshoot highly complex production environment issues.
      • Work with vendors to identify and implement 3rd party solutions.
      • Establish strong SLA’s with our key 3rd party vendors
      • Tightly manage an operational and capex budget with monthly variance analysis

    WHAT YOU BRING WITH YOU:

    SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

    • 10+ yrs Managing IT Engineering/Operations Group
    • Financial services sector and trading environment
    • Proven ability to plan and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, team environment.
    • Managing mid to large size teams.
    • Strong experience in virtualization.
    • Strong understanding of trading related technologies including market data, FIX protocol, low latency infrastructure etc
    • Proven knowledge of networking protocols, IP routing protocols, networking hardware and LAN/WAN technology
    • Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies quickly
    • Demonstrated excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
    • Worked in a global environment.

    TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

    • Routing / switching / firewall’s / load balancers / sniffers
    • Host based performance tuning
    • DNS / DHCP / NIS
    • Capacity management techniques
    • FIX protocol
    • NAS / SAN, FC / FcOE / iSCSI
    • Virtual/cloud infrastructure
    • SOA
    • Web technologies like linux web servers, Apache, load balancing etc.
    • Desktop / mobile / handhelds / laptops
    • Data center experience including power, UPS, cost analysis, ATS’s etc.
    • ITIL
    • HP / Sun hardware
    • Infrastructure security concepts including DDoS
    • Office productivity tools like powerpoint, visio, excel etc.      

    EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

    • B.S. or M.S. Degree in MIS, Computer Science, MIS, Mathematics or equivalent technical discipline and  17 + years experience in IT Engineering role and 7 + years managing IT Engineering group
